At 39,000 feet, most problems are still solved with a checklist and a clear head.
That's the instinct I bring to building things too — find what's actually broken, fix it as plainly as possible, and leave out anything that doesn't earn its place on the panel.
Most of it starts on the line: a roster that's a pain to read, a rest calculation worth double-checking, a weather brief that takes longer to assemble than it should. If it's useful enough for me to keep reaching for, it usually turns into something built properly.
